Mahmood Awan

Mahmood Awan is a distinguished Punjabi poet, writer, and cultural critic, renowned for his profound contributions to Punjabi literature. Born in Padhrar, Khushab, Pakistan, he pursued his education at Govt. College Sargodha & the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, graduating as an Electrical Engineer. Currently, he resides in Dublin, Ireland, where he continues his literary and cultural endeavours.
Awan is an award-winning author of three books of Punjabi poetry, Raat Samundar Khed (Katha, Lahore; 2002), Veeni Likhia Din (Sanjh, Lahore; 2012) and Sejal (Sanjh, Lahore; 2017). He also co-edited a bilingual, tri-scripted (Shahmukhi, Gurmukhi & English) book for Children “Fascinating Folktales of Punjab: Undivided Punjab Edition”.
Awan is also a contributing writer for The News and Dawn, leading English dailies of Pakistan. He has delivered keynotes at numerous international universities including LUMS, and SOAS (University of London). He has been featured on numerous television and radio channels, including PTV and BBC.
An M.Phil (Post-Graduate; Pre-PhD) degree was awarded for Awan’s poetry & literary contributions by Punjab University, Lahore. While Awan’s poem Ni Maa’ay ( O’ Mother) is part of the B.SC Punjabi syllabus at the prestigious Govt. College University Lahore.
